Welcome to Online Counseling!

Online Counseling is an Email-Based service available to Las Positas students who live too far away from campus to meet with a counselor in person, including students taking online courses.

This service is for Currently Enrolled/Registered Students (students with a W#):

NOTE: If this is your first time in college we ask that your online orientation and in-person assessment test be completed prior to using online counseling.

Online counseling provides the following services:

  • Information regarding Las Positas Classes, programs and services
  • Transferability and equivalency (course to course agreements) agreements between Las Positas College and four year colleges
  • College procedures and academic policies
  • Certificate, degree, general education, major and transfer requirement questions
  • Progress toward completing an academic goal for (for accurate assessment of student progress, any transcripts from other colleges attended should be on file with Admissions and Records)
  • Career counseling, resources and information
  • How to register, add and drop classes
  • Course selection
  • Course prerequisites/co-requisites clearance procedures
  • Steps for new college students
  • Interpreting assessment results (we encourage all students to complete their math/english assessment test so that your goal is established clearly)
  • Questions about probation status
  • Questions about CSU’S, UC’S and AA/AS degree applications & deadline dates
  • Referral to campus and community resources
  • Information and guidance to Re-Entry students (students returning to school after an extended break in their education)
  • General questions, non-urgent matters

Online counseling services are NOT available for:

  • Community members (please use the email link on the right hand side of the counseling home page to send an email to the counseling front desk, who will then direct your email to the appropriate counseling faculty)
  • Personal counseling or crisis counseling
  • Transcript reviews
  • Academic probation, dismissal or readmission counseling
  • Prerequisite clearance and eligibility for classes
  • Transfer Admission Guarantees (TAG)
  • Student Educational Plans (comprehensive SEP)
  • Admissions and records inquiries
  • Financial Aid inquiries

Online Counseling Response Time:

  • Online counseling is available during the fall and spring semesters, Mondays - Thursdays only.
  • Most questions will be responded to within 3 business days (excluding holidays). During periods of heavy enrollment a response may take longer
  • Counselors are NOT available during the first and last week of the semester due to high demand with registration.
  • Online counseling will NOT be available during semester breaks or campus holidays.
  • If you do not receive a response, check your spam filter and make sure it allows messages from the domain @laspositascollege.edu
  • If your question is too detailed or complex to be answered online, you may receive a message recommending that you see a counselor for in person assistance
  • Keep in mind that Online Counseling can save you time, but it does NOT take the place of seeing a counselor in person.
